La Ferme de Bassac is a French-run butcher shop and bistro in Phnom Penh, with a Steak House and butcher depot in Siem Reap — built around a working organic farm outside the capital.

Our Story

From an embassy kitchen to a farm on the Bassac

In 2011, Ludovic Moulin — formerly the personal chef to the French Ambassador in Cambodia — set out to fix a problem he kept running into: the local market had no consistent source of quality meat. He opened a small artisanal butcher counter on Street 178 in Phnom Penh and named it after the Bassac, the river running through the city.

The business grew from there into an organic farm roughly 45 minutes outside Phnom Penh, a street-front butcher shop, a bistro that fills up nightly, and — since 2020 — a Steak House in Siem Reap for travelers visiting Angkor. The animals are raised without hormones or preventive antibiotics, under European farming standards, and the kitchen teams are trained continuously in French butchery and cooking technique.

Today the farm also supplies meat to several of Cambodia's five-star hotel kitchens.
